Metatomix™ Teams with Sun Microsystems to Deliver Risk-Management Solutions to Financial Services Providers

Expanded Relationship Confirmed at the Securities Industry Association's Technology Management Conference in New York

Waltham, MA, June 14, 2004 -- Metatomix, Inc. the leader in Semantic Web-based software solutions for enterprise resource interoperability (ERI), today announced that they are teaming with Sun Microsystems, Inc. to provide financial messaging and risk-management solutions running on the Sun Fire™ V20z, Sun's AMD Opteron™ processor-based server for the Solaris™ (OS) and Linux Operating Systems and Sun's growing line of x86 servers.

As part of the expanded relationship, which aims to address risk management needs in the financial services market, Metatomix plans to support its new Metatomix SMARTE™ for Operational Risk solution on the Solaris OS for x86 systems and Redhat Linux, providing customers with additional platform choice and the benefits of the secure, reliable and highly scalable enterprise-class Solaris OS that is certified on a growing number of Sun and third-party systems. Today's announcement demonstrates the continuing customer demand for quality, cost-effective Sun x86 based solutions in the securities industry.

"Sun and Metatomix are meeting critical business requirements for risk management with several global financial institution clients," said Bob Angelo, chairman, president, and chief executive officer, Metatomix. "Metatomix is pleased to be able to leverage Sun's powerful low-cost leadership in financial markets and its important reference platform for our financial services solution to meet the needs of our banking customers."

"Working to help Sun's Wall Street customers and partners extract costs and reduce complexity in their IT infrastructure with Sun's x86 systems based on the Solaris OS and Linux is essential," said David Littlewood, senior director of financial services worldwide, Sun Microsystems. "Metatomix and Sun have formed an alliance to aggressively drive low-cost computing full steam ahead."

Metatomix SMARTE for Operational Risk is a real-time interoperability platform that enables financial services providers (FSPs) to monitor multiple real-time transaction streams "in flight" to detect risk and compliance issues as they occur. Unlike traditional risk applications that scan extracted data stores in batch, Metatomix SMARTE examines transaction streams in real time to detect threats and vulnerabilities, enabling FSPs to halt suspicious transfers or automatically manage operational limitations.

Metatomix SMARTE for Operational Risk provides a comprehensive platform solution to meet today's risk and compliance challenges. The Metatomix SMARTE system is the only Semantic Web-based solution for enterprise resource interoperability (ERI), enabling financial service providers to unify their disparate information and IT infrastructure assets. SMARTE combines a best-in-class financial messaging integration broker, an expert rules-based system and advanced data modeling capabilities, enabling better compliance, risk management and IT infrastructure monitoring.

Metatomix and Sun Microsystems cemented their alliance at the Securities Industry Alliance's Technology Management Conference in New York City at the Sun Microsystems Exhibit, Booth #4100 on Thursday, June 10, 2004.
