Germantown firm grabs 3 major deals
Germantown, TN (March 21, 2001) - Germantown's uMonitor Inc.
has snagged three deals that may generate, altogether, several hundred
thousand dollars in revenue.
uMonitor provides a secure information aggregation platform that allows
users to forgo having to enter a variety of passwords to check the
status of relevant news, to monitor and transact business with personal
financial accounts, to track packages and to send or receive E-mail.
One of the potentially larger deals is with Unisys Corp., which is
incorporating uMonitor's service in its LocalLife.com Community Portal
in West Chester, Pa., and surrounding communities. The portal provides
a way people in a geographic area can use the Internet to connect
more easily with each other and find local government and commercial
resources.
"uMonitor's best-in-class account aggregation technology brings
a new level of convenience and control to all LocalLife.com users,"
said Mary Ann Zaborowski, Unisys e-Business Services vice president
and general manager. "Users follow a simple setup procedure to
customize a personal account page, tailoring the content, layout and
color scheme. After that, viewing and managing account data is convenient,
easy and secure."
Dinesh Sheth, uMonitor chief executive officer, said uMonitor may
be used other places where Unisys helps establish community portals.
uMonitor is also partnering with iFarm, a Memphis-based company that
provides an Internet marketplace, news and other services for agriculture.
iFarm opened its site, http://www.ifarm.com, in late November.
"Information availability and management is a big issue for farmers,"
said Chris Long, iFarm president and chief executive officer. "It
can be overwhelming . . . and we think tools like the uMonitor aggregation
utility can help farmers collect what they need to make better business
decisions."
Another announcement involved ZCorum Inc. of Alpharetta, Ga., a suburb
of Atlanta. ZCorum enables organizations such as independent phone
companies and utilities to add advanced Internet services to their
main business.
"In a highly competitive market, the quality of customer service
is one of the few ways we can differentiate ourselves from the competition,"
said Ben Ow, ZCorum president. "uMonitor will allow us to offer
our customers a valuable service to help them manage their busy lives."
Sheth called the deals "important milestones in our march forward."
Declining to talk specifics, Sheth estimated the smaller of the deals
should generate $15,000-$20,000 a year, and the larger deals may generate
several hundred thousand dollars.
uMonitor now has fewer than 50,000 registered users, but, through
these deals, uMonitor's user base could exceed 500,000, Sheth said.
"We are not profitable yet, but we are on our path to get there,"
he said.
