Emageon To Provide Next Generation
Enterprise-Wide Digital Imaging Services For Genesys Health System
Genesys moves "Beyond Traditional PACS" with Emageon’s
New Enterprise Image Management Solution, Utilizing "All Spinning"
Storage
Birmingham, AL (November 21, 2001) -- Emageon, a leading
provider of enterprise solutions for diagnostic imaging, announced
today that Genesys Health System in Grand Blanc, Michigan has selected
Emageon's enterprise-class software technology solution to manage
its entire acquisition, archiving, distribution and viewing of digital
images.Genesys Health System will use Emageon's enterprise image management
software suite to provide a total RAID-based, "all spinning"
archive for its ten-county system. The five-year contract extends
through 2006 and will also provide enterprise-wide diagnostic and
clinical viewing of over 800,000 studies.
Genesys Health System, a health ministry of Ascension Health, is a
regionally integrated health care delivery system comprised of a group
of affiliated medical campuses, outpatient centers, primary care locations
and ancillary health care organizations serving the mid-Michigan counties
of Genesee, Shiawassee, Lapeer, Oakland, Livingston and Tuscola, with
an additional four counties in the secondary market.
"Emageon’s unique and innovative approach to helping us
meet our enterprise imaging goals was refreshing," said David
Holland, Genesys’ vice president & CIO. "Their ‘all
spinning’ enterprise solution will place Genesys at the forefront
of digital imaging."
Genesys’ vice president of diagnostic services, Nancy Kidder
said, "Genesys Health System was an early pioneer in the use
of ‘Radiology PACS’ and was one of the first hospitals
in the country to move to a filmless environment. The realities were,
however, that our needs to move to an enterprise solution were limited
by our current infrastructure.
Emageon’s enterprise approach to digital imaging was a quantum
leap ahead of what traditional PACS companies were offering."
"As we moved our imaging strategy to an enterprise level, it
was clear that an open-based architecture system was critical to our
future success," added Genesys’ Chief of Radiology, John
Dobson, M.D. "Our legacy system’s proprietary approach
of utilizing privately tagged fields would not allow us to attain
our goals. Emageon’s philosophy and commitment to a truly open
system will allow us to easily integrate ‘best of breed’
technologies as we continue to grow our enterprise."
"Genesys Health System has over four years’ experience
as a PACS user. With this experience, the team at Genesys is obviously
a very sophisticated buyer of digital imaging technology," said
Chuck Jett, Emageon’s CEO. "I believe our ability to compete
and win in opportunities with a knowledgeable buyer like Genesys is
a clear indication that Emageon's current technology and vision for
the future are on the mark."
