Whitehorn Delivers Changes to ServiceU
As is true with any small Internet entreprenuer, Tim Whitehorn has
had to adjust and change along with the market.
ServiceU.com, founded in 1997 by Whitehorn, was initially launched
as an Internet software consulting business that sold software via
an ASP (application service provider) model.
Other companies, in the same space as ServiceU, began to broaden their
services in an attempt to stay a float, but ServiceU decided to narrowly
tailor their services with EventU. EventU is a software product
that allows organizations, such as churches and schools, to schedule
and coordinate events.
To date ServiceU has signed up to 500 customers. One of which,
Bellvue Baptist Church, has seen a direct customer benefit with using
ServiceU for their near 20 a day event schedule.
After teaming up with Delta Capital Management, LLC, ServiceU raised3.15
million in venture capital in a round led by Delta Capital.
After EventU was launched, Whitehorn saw another niche that could
compliment EventU-transaction processing.
"We could place the events online, but they needed a place to
purchase tickets for the events as well," Whitehorn says.
"We needed to make event registration available to the public.
From there ServiceU adopted and introduced TransactU, a web payment
system that required no programming by the customers.
Whitehorn, 38, came to ServiceU after serving FedEx as a software
programmer and after being involved with two other start-up companies,
one of which, ATS Network, was sold in 1996.
"The start-up family has been exciting over the past few years,"
says Whitehorn. "We are hoping to take ServiceU to another
level with TransactU."
