MeshNetworks CEO Joins AIR2LAN
Advisory Board
Jackson, MS (September 17, 2003) -- AIR2LAN, a
local wireless broadband Internet provider, announces today the
appointment of Richard Licursi to its advisory board. As a recognized
leader in the areas of wireless technologies, financial management,
and strategic partnerships, Licursi will provide AIR2LAN with experience
and expertise in these areas.
Licursi, most recently named "High-Tech Executive of the Year"
by The Florida Council of AeA, is President and CEO of MeshNetworks,
Inc., a venture-backed company specializing in ad hoc peer-to-peer
mobile broadband communications. Prior to joining MeshNetworks,
Inc., Licursi formed Phoenix Wireless Group, a venture-backed telecommunications
software company. He held the title of President and CEO of Phoenix
until 1998 when he became Chairman and retained that position until
the company was sold to Excel Switching in 1999
Jai Bhagat, Chairman and CEO of AIR2LAN stated, "Richard brings
years of experience in the telecommunications industry and is a
strong asset in devising strategies to grow and sustain businesses.
AIR2LAN looks forward to working with Richard and MeshNetworks,
Inc., in the continued deployment of broadband services in the southeastern
United States."
The broadband services Bhagat is referring to comprise an array
of wireless high-speed Internet technologies. In May 2000, Bhagat
founded AIR2LAN, a company that focused on bringing fixed wireless
technologies to the small and medium business sector. However, as
the need for mobile applications grew in the workplace, Bhagat began
seeking out new solutions to provide anytime-anywhere access for
his current business constituents. For Bhagat and team, MeshNetworks
brought a level of bandwidth and mobility to AIR2LAN’s service
offering that went above and beyond other technologies
Richard Licursi stated, "Before MeshNetworks emerged, procuring
the right technology solutions involved a tradeoff: You either had
good mobility, or good bandwidth, but not both. MeshNetworks technology
has been developed to offer better capacity, security, reliability,
and bandwidth than existing technologies. Such capabilities are
indeed the recipe for any-time, anywhere broadband Internet access."
While MeshNetworks and AIR2LAN are strategic partners, both companies
plan on expanding their role in marketing MeshNetworks’ mobility
strategy to AIR2LAN’s existing and new customer base
Jai Bhagat stated, "AIR2LAN currently has over 15,000 corporate
end users, all of which need a broadband mobile solution that doesn’t
tie them down to their desktop computers. AIR2LAN has laid the infrastructure
necessary for a rapid deployment of newer, more advanced MeshNetworking
technology. This provides for us a head start in becoming a leading
national broadband mobile service provider.
Immediate plans for AIR2LAN and MeshNetworks include pursuing enhanced
broadband services for business and residential segments as well
as the municipal markets, where city governments and local public
safety can begin implementing MeshNetworks’ technology to
improve their voice, video, and data communications systems.
About MeshNetworks, Inc.
MeshNetworks has developed a revolutionary mobile broadband network
architecture based on patented ad hoc peer-to-peer (p2p) routing
technology. The result is a self-forming, self-healing wireless
mesh where mobile devices become the network. MeshNetworks’
Multi-Hopping™ routing technology offers non-line-of-sight
broadband connectivity, while eliminating the need for towers and
extensive system design. Industry standard Internet Protocol (IP)
support lets existing applications and devices "go mobile"
without any changes or additional development. MeshNetworks can
address the needs of both mobile and fixed wireless broadband applications.
MeshNetworks is making its breakthrough technology available through
licensing, chipsets and turnkey network products. MeshNetworks employs
nearly 70 professionals, including top authorities on ad hoc peer-to-peer
networking. A demonstration network is deployed in Maitland, Florida,
near the Company’s headquarters. MeshNetworks is a venture-backed
startup, whose investors include: Apax Partners, BancBoston Ventures,
Inc., ITT Industries, Redwood Ventures, and 3Com Ventures. More
